River Canard Community Sampling
Golfview Park and Wetlands Trail Parking Lot, Amherstburg, Golfview Park, Golfview Drive, Amherstburg, ON, Canada
Freshwater faces many threats, and people are stepping up to take action.
We are looking for volunteers to help join our community monitoring events around Windsor-Essex. When you volunteer with us, you will learn how to sample baseline water quality conditions. We’ll be taking measurements of water quality, learning how to use some community science apps, recording observations of ecosystem health and biodiversity, and taking some time to enjoy nature together. Our events run for approximately two and a half hours, during which we will be visiting three to four sites.
We welcome all volunteers. Your participation helps us work towards a healthier future for our waterways.
We’re happy to consider special requests and welcome your suggestions for local sites you’d like to help monitor.

Community science is a growing movement, and there are now more ways than ever to get involved. Below, you’ll find resources from a wide range of groups, organizations, and networks working in freshwater community science.
Would you like to volunteer with an organized group? Explore watershed report cards or access real-time water quality data? Contribute data using your phone?
By connecting with these groups and networks, you can be part of an early warning system—helping to identify pollution or contamination before it spreads and paving the way for action to protect our local environment.
We’re looking for volunteers who care about our water.
Whether you’re a seasoned environmentalist or just getting started, come to one of our community sampling events and we’ll give you the training and tools to contribute meaningfully to local water quality monitoring efforts. Or, if you have questions, get in touch using the link below and we’ll make sure you’re up to speed.
We are excited to get you involved in our collaborative effort to better understand the health of our freshwater systems. By collecting water quality data from streams and rivers across the Western basin of Lake Erie, you are contributing to a growing understanding of how water quality issues in local waterways connect to the health of Lake Erie. The data that we will collect feeds into an early warning system tracking harmful algal blooms and other threats to the Great Lakes, while also contributing to watershed health reports created by organizations like the Lake Erie Volunteer Science Network and Water Rangers.
We would like to acknowledge the support of the Canada Water Agency, which funded this project.
